Weight Loss Is A Toxic Goal
If you’re not doing it for you
I know some of you saw the title and are now scratching your heads? “Why is weight loss so bad?” you’re asking me. “Don’t you know the benefits of weight loss?”
I’m not disputing the benefits. Sure, if done right, weight loss can do wonders for your body.
But here’s the problem. Few people are careful about their weight loss. Some people, like me, get obsessive and see it as a golden ticket to happiness. I can tell you from experience that results don’t last, but the mental toil does.
You can’t win with society.
Others get discouraged after venting to the wrong person about their struggles. The wrong person says cruel, ignorant things, killing the other person’s will. It feels like no matter what that person does, they can’t win against their body issues.
There is nothing wrong with trying to lose weight. You’re not fatphobic if you want to lose weight. If that’s what you want to do, do it for yourself. If you’re trying to lose weight to please others, weight loss is a toxic goal.
