Today, I was Fat-Shamed on Medium
All because I dared to disagree
At first, I was shocked and saddened. I commented on another article yesterday that got an unusual amount of views. The story itself was fantastic. I said my piece on one part of the story; I didn’t fully agree with the author. Today, someone replied.
“…Btw, you may want to lose weight, especially during covid19. it doesn’t take kindly FAT people.”
Cool story, bro?
I always considered Medium an excellent place for progressives, liberals, and conservatives alike to read one another’s opinions and discuss them peacefully. To have someone read a two-sentence comment and decide to start insulting your looks isn’t encouraging.
This year is bringing out our worst qualities. With a pandemic raging through the world, presidential elections, and much-needed social change, it’s like we forget we’re people.
You don’t have to agree with every article you read, but if you decide to comment, please be kind. You don’t know the struggles of our fellow readers and writers.
