Things to Experience in Beijing
For the past five and half years, I’ve called Beijing my home. In November, 2013, I took a job teaching English to small children. It’s become one of the most rewarding jobs of my life.
Beijing is a massive city. If someone only has a week, it can be hard to pick out the best places to see. I’ve only had two visitors while here, and they both went to different places. However, there were some consistencies with both of their visits.
I’ve put together my favorite places to go in Beijing. Not all of these are famous places. Some are lesser known. And some are pretty common for people living here.
The Great Wall
If you’ve never heard of the Great Wall, it’s time to throw away the rock you’ve been under and pull yourself into the real world. The Great Wall has been around for two thousand years. It stretches for miles outside of Beijing. Now, it’s been separated into different sections. Some parts have been fully restored. Some look a little more rustic. Wherever you go, be sure to bring a lot of water. You’re going to need it! It’s a lot of hiking. Not all parts of the Great Wall are the same.
The easiest, and most popular, part of the Great Wall for first-time visitors is Badaling. It’s the most renovated part of the Wall. Diplomats and celebrities go here when they visit China.
