My Fiancé Proposed on the Great Wall
In February, my fiance, Shaun, visited China. He was here only for a week, but I made sure he had the best time he could possibly have. We went to the Temple of Heaven, visited Disneyland in Shanghai, and he tried a scorpion. There was one more place he wanted to see.
On a cold day, Shaun and I went to the Great Wall. Our friend, Venn, came with us. They hadn’t been to the Great Wall either. Normally, you could get a bus to the Wall. That day, we had a weird bus driver that kicked everyone off the bus. So we ended up calling a Didi instead. An hour later, we were at the Mutianyu Great Wall.
Mutianyu is a part of the Great Wall that’s popular with expats. If you’re not up for walking the Great Wall, you can get a cable car to get to the top. Also, you can get a toboggan and slide down. If you see a video on Facebook or Instagram of people sliding down the Wall, chances are they were in Mutianyu.
It was a cloudy day. Parts of the Wall still had a little bit of snow from the week before. Shaun often walked ahead of us to take in the scene. He constantly handed Venn his phone to take pictures of us in different scenic spots.
