I Didn’t Know It was a Date!

At twenty-three, I walked in
the house
of the man that would be
my fiance.
My friend knew him
from work
and wanted to introduce him
to people
so he wouldn’t feel so
alone.

“I warned him
you have no filter,”
she said.
So he wouldn’t be freaked out
by me.
Who would be freaked out
by me?
I’m fun and hilarious!

Then we walked through
the door,
and I saw him.
That dark hair,
those beautiful eyes
and a smile
that didn’t leave
his face.
We said our hellos
then I explored the house
so I could see
what this human
was like.
