Does BMI have a Point Anymore?

Do I need to take stock in it these days?

The last time I checked my BMI was in my senior year of high school. I took a weight training class, and part of the course was to check your BMI by literally pinching your fat. I don’t remember what the number ended up being, but it didn’t tell me anything I didn’t know.

I spent fifteen minutes getting my fat pinched to be told I’m an overweight teen. I could’ve patted myself in the stomach for that same amount of time to tell you the same thing.

Now, I’m thirty-one years old and making an extra effort to take care of my weight. Not because I believe in the scales being the almighty decider of my health but because I want to. I’ve seen enough episodes of My 600 Pound Life to know if I didn’t start now, I’d be the next person on that show.

And cause I’m cheap. It’s a lot less expensive for me to make an effort to lose weight and get healthier than it is to spend double the price for essentials cause I’m carrying some extra weight around.
